Spring!
“How can you tell the difference? Scared + excited are energized feelings that feel light and free. Dread, on the other hand, is an energy-sucking feeling, it feels heavy, like you are trying to run in deep mud.”
Happy March!
Happy March! I love the beginning of spring when the tiny sprouts pop up and say Hello! I live in the northwest and although I am glad to see the sprouts and signs that spring is on its way I also tell them “Go back, you’re too early, it’s going to get cold again” each year they do not heed my warning. They are fully prepared for whatever comes next; they know the drill and have survived a multitude of springs long before I arrived on the scene.
If you are not feeling ready for spring or starting something new ask yourself what you see as the obstacle(s) in your path? Have you seen this obstacle before or is it brand new? Are you really stuck without a clue what the next move is? Or do you know the next move and aren’t feeling confident enough to make it? The scared + excited feeling means you should march on (pun intended;-). If the feeling is dread take time to regroup or change direction. How can you tell the difference? Scared + excited are energized feelings that feel light and free. Dread, on the other hand, is an energy-sucking feeling, it feels heavy, like you are trying to run in deep mud.
When you feel anxious it can be difficult to tell if you are feeling excited + scared or dreadful. It is the initial feeling you get that is the answer. When you think of the new plan or idea are you excited, if only for a moment? That’s your body talking and your body knows the correct answer. The thoughts that follow, the ones that try to talk you out of it or criticize you are from your anxious brain. That part of you is being protective, it doesn’t want you to get hurt but it doesn’t know what is best for you. And it acts in very broad strokes, very broad. Yes you may not get hurt but you will also not experience new things, people or ideas. It blocks everything. So when presented with an idea or plan it doesn’t actually know if it is a good plan or not, it just knows the status quo and it likes it very much. Nothing new means status quo remains. Something new means you are changing the current circumstance and by default that just can’t be a good idea. Which of course is ridiculous. Nothing new doesn’t = nothing bad. It just means you stay stuck.
